WE PRESENT

Employee Pre & Onboarding
Report 2021

BY ANDERS THORUP

Anders Thorup shared with us the results of the Pre & Onboarding Survey, where 2.044 employees participated during 2021.

In his presentation, Anders also shared insights into what are the best conditions to provide to new employees for ensuring they are having an absolute best start at their new jobs. In this vein, Anders focused on the role of Preboarding for ensuring your successful start at your new job.

Delivered in a witty tone, using familiar elements of our day-to-day lives such as dating and social situations with multiple unknown faces, and sprinkled with key HR metrics, Anders address some key questions, the most important one being: Why is Preboarding important at the initial stages of your new employee lifecycle?

His arguments revolved around a key thesis: we as human beings have a very basic need of belonging. This is where preboarding comes in.

Key Questions

Can we expect that the employee spends time on Preboarding tasks in a period of time when he/she is not receiving any salary?

Anders explained, in an innovative way, what nowadays is the core of Pre & Onboarding. Why the most successful companies implement effective programs with easy-to-use platforms, made by employees to employees (E2E).

He also shared with us the results of the Pre & Onboarding Survey, where 2.044 employees participated during 2021.

Key Questions

Preboarding is addressed as a method for building meaningful connections, which we know, based on the data we collected through our Pre & Onboarding Survey 2021, is a crucial element for employees starting a new job.

Throughout his presentation, Anders went on to tackle the following key questions:

  1. Why is preboarding important at the initial stages of your new employee lifecycle?
  2. How important is it for employees to meet their team prior to starting work?
  3. How many employees felt that they got all the necessary information prior to starting on a new job?
  4. Do the employees expect logistical information prior to the first day at work (such as location and meeting time), or do they actually expect something more?
  5. Do the employees actually expect gaining access to extensive information about the future workplace and the values and mission of the organisation?
  6. Can we expect that the employee spends time on preboarding tasks in a period of time when he/she is not receiving any salary?
  7. What is the one element that should never miss from an effective employee onboarding programme?
  8. How do structured Pre & Onboarding processes impact employee performance, engagement and talent retention?

We celebrated the

Pre & Onboarding Summit 2021

Some of the most popular companies from Scandinavia attended: Mærsk, Novo Nordisk, Ikea, Leo-Pharma, and Trelleborg, together with international brands as Allianz and Milestone Systems.

Anders Thorup

It took place on the 3rd of September 2021.

That afternoon we took the main leap into the necessity, understanding and effect of good and employee-oriented Pre & Onboarding. We also invited some of Denmark’s sharpest HR professionals to present and answer your questions, reflections and comments. Among them, Ulf Hahnemann, former CHRO at A.P. Møller Mærsk, shared with us some really insightful thoughts and hacks.

Pre & Onboarding Insights

We should invest the same time and energy that we use for finding the right employee to get the new employee well-started.
