Pre & Onboarding Quotes

The technological part of onboarding was amazing. I remember I was just ‘Plug-and-Play’, it was great!

Before Simon Lyngsø founded Joes & Cos, he previously worked in the public sector and he shares his experiences when he started.

In Simon’s Own Words

I have previously worked for Metroselskabet & Hovedstadens Letbane as a Digital Product Partnership Manager for 6 years where I introduced new digital solutions into the Public Transportation via app and web. And now, I have a start up called Joes & Cos. We launched it in Copenhagen 2 years ago.

It’s a platform where you have access to different workspaces. It’s like a third working space right in your pocket where you can check in and do your work, in the meantime, meeting other people. Co-working spaces have their own culture. And we aim to make this culture strong by having co-working Wednesdays.

Experiences as an Employee in the Public Sector of Denmark

I was actually an employee in the government. It was quite nice in a way that the first time I came in the office, I had a desk which was dedicated to me. I was quite impressed by having my laptop already set-up with my name, e-mail and everything. I had a mobile phone that was connected and all the employees’ number already registered in the phone so I could call them easily. The technological part of onboarding was amazing. I remember I was just ‘Plug-and-Play’, it was great!

Highlights of Simon’s First day

People were really nice, we started out with a breakfast in the kitchen. Then they took me to my table and I had a mentor who helped set me up with everything. It was a great start as I did not feel completely alone.

Challenges on Simon’s first day

I had no idea what my day was going to be like. (Even though) I had been there for 3 interviews, and every time I was rushed in to a meeting room. So, I never met any of the potential future colleagues. I was rushed out again (after the interview).

Pre & Onboarding Experience

I had no idea who I was going to work with, it was a very strange experience to start.

  • Get the practical information before you start. The more, the better.
  • Get a mentor, it will help give you a great start so you don’t feel completely alone.
  • Get a full agenda of what will happen during your first week or month. (Who you’re going to meet, what are the expectations and so on.)
